What are Glutathione Injections?
Glutathione injections are injections of the tripeptide glutathione. These shots are commonly used in skin lightening treatments and for general immune system boosting benefits.
Glutathione is a tripeptide made up of Cysteine, Glutamic Acid and Glycine. These three amino acids are metabolized into glutathione which protect the individual cells from toxins and oxidative stress.
When you suffer from oxidative stress, free radicals are formed and glutathione within the cells ushers these free radicals out of your system. An overabundance of oxidative stress leads to many conditions from cancer to over training to numerous other illnesses and conditions.
This article will try to explain how this amazing antioxidant is beneficial in fighting disease, removing toxins and even how it helps with athletic performance and fat metabolism. It even is used to lighten skin!

Glutathione Injection Benefits
There are numerous benefits to a glutathione Injection. The most obvious is the bioavalabilty of the antioxidant in the bloodstream. Your body does manufacture glutathione naturally but as we age the amount of glutathione available in the blood begins to decline.
Other factors can deplete glutathione stores in your body. For Example drinking alcohol, smoking, eating processed foods or suffering from stress. If you are exposed to environmental toxins in water or pollution then your body will be depleted of glutathione. Glutathione injections will help restore you to optimum levels so your body can protect itself naturally from various illnesses.
Glutathione vs. Oxidation
You may have heard of the term ‘free radicals’ and the havoc that it can cause in your body. Free radicals are caused by oxidation in your blood and glutathione is the mechanism by which it is removed.
Oxidation is caused by several stressors, both physical and environmental. For example, free radicals are often formed after a workout, through pollution, heavy metals, stress, illness, drinking alcohol, smoking and more. Glutathione then ‘escorts’ those toxins and free radicals out of your system through urine or bile.
Glutathione is known as the ‘Master antioxidant‘ or the ‘Mother of antioxidants‘ for good reason. The antioxidant is made by the body and present within your cells ready to protect you from free radicals.
You should think of glutathione like you would think of Iron Man (from the Avengers) or Batman.
Iron Man and Batman both wear suits that protect them from enemies. They both also have numerous weapons at their disposal to fight off their enemies.
The hero’s lone weakness are their super suits, which is also their greatest strength. They have the ability to fight and protect themselves as long as they do not run out of power or equipment.
Iron Man would be far less effective if his power supply were empty, rendering him unable to fly or fire his laser beams. Batman also would suffer if his utility belt were depleted of all its gadgets.
Glutathione acts in the same manner, it is extremely effective at neutralizing toxins and free radicals but just like the Iron mans suit or Batmans belt, eventually your glutathione is depleted the longer your body has to fight.
The good news is your body can make more, the bad news is your body is always under assault. Furthermore, your ability to make glutathione on your own is hampered by age, environment and illness.
Glutathione Depletion
I have explained that just like a hero with a super suit glutathione needs a “re-charge” from time to time. What I have not explained are the culprits that would rob you of your glutathione stores.
The EPA had conducted a 20 year study with thousands of participants and have found that the human body can have hundreds of toxins and heavy metals present in their system. Newborn infants have been tested and even they have as many as 200 different toxins in their system just out of the womb. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/health/babies-are-polluted-at-birth-new-report-says/625/
Your body is consistently under assault even if you live a healthy lifestyle, as these studies have shown. In fact, you would need glutathione to keep you healthy even if you lived in a bubble!
When you exercise it creates free radicals, as you age you create free radicals. I have created a list below to show you some of the ways gluthathione is depleted. If you have any of these issues then you might want to make sure to replenish your glutathione stores often.
- Aging
- Illness
- Chronic Illness
- Pollution
- Radiation
- Smoking
- Alcohol
- Intense exercise
- Pesticides
- Burns/Scratches
- Flu
Glutathione Aging and General Health
As we age glutathione levels drop. Additionally, when you are ill, glutathione levels also drop. I’ll explain it this way, the less glutathione you have in your system, the more likely you are to get sick. Conversely, if you are sick the less glutathione you have in your system.
If you like to read scientific studies visit the links below. If not, keep reading.

The links above give you and overview of how the process works in regards to illness and aging. The concept is relatively simple if you think about the super hero example I gave earlier. When you are under attack, your defenses get depleted and also if your defenses are depleted you are easier to attack.
Glutathione and Athletic Performance
I previously mentioned that even exercise creates free radicals. Glutathione is critical in removing these free radicals which promotes healing and well being. But did you know that studies have shown these antioxidants promote performance and recovery?
The results of both the animal and human studies indicate that glutathione supplementation inhibited the decrease in intermuscular pH after exercise; in the human study, this was demonstrated by the differences in blood lactate concentrations following exercise between the placebo and glutathione trials. These results may also explain the differences observed between the trials in RPE and subjective fatigue during and after exercise; in particular, an improvement in muscular acidosis results in less fatigue.
This study is saying that higher glutathione concentration resulted in less lactic acid, which is a by product of a hard workout. The study goes on to say that in both humans and animal studies they suffered less fatigue both during and after exercise.
GSH (or Glutathione) is critical for lipid (fat) metabolism also. If your glutathione levels are higher you will burn more fat for energy and less glucose. Lactic acid is built up when you are having trouble using glucose for energy. Therefore, you can see that GSH is protecting your body from lactic acid and regulating your glucose by more effectively burning fat.
Finally, if you have ever felt the symptoms of over-training, it is likely because you have too little GSH in your system. Over-training symptoms include lethargy, extreme muscle soreness and flu like symptoms.
Glutathione and Anti Aging
Your ability to heal is dependent on GSH but did you know it can reverse and slow the aging process too? You might be surprised but the answer is yes!
Our results also showed that GSH was significantly superior to placebo in its ability to improve wrinkles, at least at some anatomic locations.
Your aging is not just dependent on skin condition. Weight gain is also an issue as men and women age. Below I have posted a quote from Baylor University.
“We wanted to know what happens to mitochondrial ability to burn fat with long-term glutathione deficiency in older people,” said Sekhar. “In fasted younger people, their body was able to burn fat well for energy needs. However, glutathione-deficient older people were not able to burn fat very well under the same conditions.”
“When we ………………… corrected glutathione deficiency, amazingly their fat oxidation also normalized,” he said. “The older people go back to burning fat as well as younger people within 14 days.”

I can probably lecture you on how smoother, brighter skin, less wrinkles and a lower body fat percentage might make you look you and feel younger but by now you probably understand.
Glutathione and Cancer
GSH can protect you from the harmful effects of cancer treatment AND it can protect cancer cells from Cancer treatment also.
Glutathione is an abundant natural tripeptide found within almost all cells. Glutathione is highly reactive and is often found conjugated to other molecules via its sulfhydryl moiety. It instils several vital roles within a cell including antioxidation, maintenance of the redox state, modulation of the immune response and detoxification of xenobiotics. With respect to cancer, glutathione metabolism is able to play both protective and pathogenic roles. It is crucial in the removal and detoxification of carcinogens, and alterations in this pathway, can have a profound effect on cell survival. However, by conferring resistance to a number of chemotherapeutic drugs, elevated levels of glutathione in tumour cells are able to protect such cells in bone marrow, breast, colon, larynx and lung cancers. Here we present a number of studies investigating the role of glutathione in promoting cancer, impeding chemotherapy, and the use of glutathione modulation to enhance anti-neoplastic therapy.
Glutathione offers protection against side effects of both radiation and chemotherapy. In one trial, patients receiving glutathione suffered less post-radiation therapy diarrhea and more likely to complete their entire treatment cycle. As for chemotherapy, trials have shown that when coupled with Cisplatin, there was a significant reduction in nephrotoxicity in patients with ovarian cancer, as well as a greater tumor response. Glutathione also appears to protect patients from developing neuropathy from their chemotherapy treatments.

Glutathione vs. Alcohol
I have said time and again that GSH protects you from all sorts of physical and physiological damage. Alcohol is no different. You may know, alcohol literally is a poison and the more you drink the worse off you are. Glutathione, once again, swoops in to save the day. You have one problem though, GSH is depleted very rapidly in the face of poisons, alcohol included.
In order to see how effective glutathione can be for hangovers, you need only understand the fundamentals of what’s happening in your body when you’re hungover. Here’s a brief breakdown, coupled with a summation of how glutathione soothes each of these hangover pain points.
Glutathione depletion. This first marker should make it immediately obvious why glutathione is a natural hangover remedy. Excessive alcohol consumption has been shown to deplete glutathione levels,[2] because your body is struggling to produce enough to counter the toxic effects of drinking. By providing your body with an extra dose of glutathione through supplementation, you’re essentially giving more ammo to your detoxification system—and the more quickly and effectively your body can detox, the faster you’ll recover from your hangover.
Toxic liver metabolites. One of things that makes alcohol consumption so unhealthy is the toxic metabolites it leaves in your liver. These byproducts of alcohol breakdown, called acetaldehydes, are even more noxious than alcohol itself, and are one of the main causes of the nausea, sweating, vomiting, and liver damage associated with alcohol abuse.
A study published in the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine found that glutathione helps neutralize acetaldehydes and other liver toxins, and conversely, that insufficient glutathione levels in the liver can lead to oxidative stress induced liver dysfunctionhttp://naturalmentor.com/is-glutathione-the-perfect-hangover-remedy/
Glutathione the Flu and Everything Else!
Glutathione prevents a host of conditions like the flu, the cold and over-training. All of these will fall victim to GSH is you have enough in your system.
Autism and Glutathione
Tylenol is not suggested during vaccinations? Why? Acetaminophen is hard on the liver, if a substance is hard on the liver it reduces the amount of GSH in the body. There appears to be a line between heavy metals and Autism. If your body cannot combat environmental factors or it is taking in to many heavy metals, perhaps it can lead to Autism. It is also a fact that people with Autism have a GSH deficiency.
An imbalance between oxidative stress and antioxidant systems might be triggered by toxic environmental exposures such as to heavy metals and xenobiotics. It is assumed that such an imbalance might lead to neuronal damage in genetically predisposed individuals. Similar pathophysiological models have been discussed for schizophrenia. Such theories for ASD have been supported by laboratory and postmortem findings of altered GSH concentrations in ASD patients. GSH is the brain’s dominant antioxidant, showing decreased blood levels of reduced GSH and increased concentrations of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) in the ASD group compared to controls on a meta-analytical level. Postmortem studies found a disturbed redox ratio as a marker of oxidative stress in the cerebellum and temporal cortex.

Where and How do you get Glutathione?
You can eat sulfur rich foods. Like I have said, aging by itself decreases absorption of these amino acids. I suggest this method for young and healthy people.
- Eggs
- Dairy products
- Red Meat/ Organ Meats (brain, liver, kidneys)
- Whey Protein
- Broccoli
- Cauliflower
- Greens
- Brussel Sprouts
- Kale
I must warn you cooking foods reduces the nutritional value. Also, you have to consider that processed foods and foods with pesticides reduces your natural glutathione levels. If you might be exposed to environmental factors, prefer to cook your food or just want to be cautious you can take an oral supplement.
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is an effective supplement form of cysteine.
Studies have shown, that NAC can and does boost Glutathione levels. I suggest these products for people who might be a bit older, suffer from illness or simply work out harder than the average person.
My last suggestion, for those that want to take their Glutathione production to another level, I suggest glutathione injections. Clearly no one wants to take shots if you can help it. However, if you are over 35 or have trouble with digestion (or take antacids) or are frequently ill or maybe you just train very hard…. Glutathione Injections might be your most efficient means of maximizing your health or your athletic performance.
Where Can I get Glutathione Injections?
If you look up glutathione injections near me you will fins that you can purchase Glutathione shots at a wellness center or clinic. Obviously doing it this way means traveling to the location and paying a huge markup for the shots.
A cheaper and easier way to buy glutahthione injections is to order it online. The advantage to this method is that you still communicate with a physician and once approved you get the product shipped directly to you.
Another advantage of buying glutathione injections online is that you will pay a fraction of the price since you do not have to show up to a physical location every time you need a shot.
The disadvantage is you will have to administer the shot yourself.
