Kratom Capsules vs the FDA: Will Kratom be Banned?

What are Kratom Capsules?

Kratom capsules is Kratom made into powdered form and placed into a capsule in order to better control serving size and dosage. Kratom is also known as “ketum” or “kakuam” and is a plant that is indigenous to Southeast Asia. Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical tree that is part of the coffee family.

Since the 19th century Kratom has been used as an alternative form of medicine in countries such as New Guinea, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia. Many that used Kratom did so by chewing the leaves of the Mitragnya speciosa tree.

Kratom Ban

The Kratom ban seems to be a knee-jerk reaction to the prescription opioid crisis. While several deaths can be directly attributed from opiod overdose, it appears that any harm that came from “Kratom related deaths” are very unscientific. Since the FDA relies on science and facts, it is confusing to this writer why the rush to ban something as obscure as Kratom capsules.

Considering the nature of opioid abuse you might think that our politicians might look into 21 million pills shipped to a town of 3,000 between 2008 and 2015.

Without getting too far off track, I am also wondering why we seem to have such a harsh stance against marijuana these days.  But I digress.

Herbal Salvation Kratom

Technically Kratom is not illegal yet. That does not mean that the government cannot make it difficult for one to operate however. Herbal salvation Kratom sells Kratom in powdered form but as you can see by this image, they do not have the ability to process credit card payments.

This tactic is more common that you might thing.

Can you Buy Kratom Capsules?

Yes, you can. There reason you cannot buy Kratom at a retailer like GNC or Walmart is the same reason the supplier above is having trouble. If the government feels like it they can punish merchant services and then the merchant service companies punish the retailer. No big retailer is willing to lose their ability to process credit cards so instead they just drop the product.

You have to be willing to look for other sources or be able to pay by other means for a product like this. You will find this true in other businesses as well.

Kratom Side Effects

Kratom certainly seems to have its uses. That said, any product may have negative effects if used too often or incorrectly.

Some of the reported side effects include:

  • Nausea.
  • Itching.
  • Sweating.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Constipation.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Increased urination.
  • Anorexia.
  • Insomnia.
  • Skin darkening.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Constipation.

You want to be careful before taking any product you are unfamiliar with. Kratom is just another one of those products.

Why do people take Kratom Capsules?

Reportedly, there are 5 million people that have or do taken Kratom. Some of the reasons they take this product is to get off of prescription and non prescription opioids, mood swings as well as for chronic pain relief.

From science direct:

Kratom is primarily used by a middle-aged (31–50 years), middle-income ($35,000 and above) population for purposes of self-treating pain (68%) and emotional or mental conditions (66%). Kratom preparations present with a dose-dependent effect with negative effects, which were primarily gastrointestinal related including nausea and constipation, mainly presenting at high (5 g or more/dose) and more frequent (22 or more doses/week) dosing.

Conclusions

Kratom shows a dose-dependent opioid-like effect providing self-reported perceived beneficial effects in alleviating pain and relieving mood disorders. Kratom was primarily used for self-treatment of pain, mood disorders, and withdrawal symptoms associated with prescription opioid use.

Final Thoughts

I personally have never taken Kratom so I cannot endorse nor oppose this product. I just wonder why our officials are taking such a hard line against it with what seems to be shaky evidence. We have other products that do more damage in a shorter period of time that we won’t dare discuss.

I guess what I am trying to say is that if it is a plant, we must address it immediately. I just wonder why if the plant is not illegal do businesses risk losing their merchant accounts.  That effectively can shut them down anyway.
