Party Like a Rock Star: A Local’s Guide to Las Vegas

Are you a rock star seeing the country one city at a time? Maybe you roll like one, with a new destination on your itinerary each night. If you spend six months traveling around the world, it can take its toll physically and financially. Where do you eat on a budget? What are the top must-see destinations? What bars do the locals recommend? Whether you’re taxiing the runway, cruising in a tour bus, or taking turns behind the wheel of a van, travel tips from locals will maximize your fun. Check out how the locals party like a rock star in Las Vegas.
I recently wrote A Local’s Guide to Vintage Las Vegas, but if nostalgia doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry! Vegas is an amazing town that caters to all cravings. It’s bright and colorful, lively and friendly, vivacious and quirky. There’s plenty to do if you’re looking to stay close to the strip and get your glam on. Make time for some of the locals’ favorite Las Vegas locations.

Chandelier Bar

While most people hit Caesars Palace first, you’re cooler than that, so you’re going to head over to The Cosmopolitan for two of my favorite Vegas stops. Take in all three floors of the gorgeous Chandelier Bar. While the top two floors have all the glam, the bottom bar has the gems. During the day, order the secret cocktail. No, it’s not on the menu. Yes, that’s the name. Tip two: sit at the bar and play video blackjack. This is one of the only video gaming machines that spits out drink tickets based on play. I have never paid for more than one cocktail at this bar, though Vegas knows I’ve imbibed many times that number.

Rose, Rabbit, Lie

When you’re done drinking and gambling, head over to Rose, Rabbit, Lie in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. While there is no shortage of great restaurants and lively entertainment in Vegas, this cool find is host to both. Feast on creative dishes and take in the cabaret style show. You never know; you might be one of the lucky chosen participants! Locals’ tip: if you have time, indulge in the prix fix and stuff yourself silly. They’ll tell you it’s five courses, but each course has multiple dishes. Locals’ secret: If you can’t get reservations at Rose, Rabbit, Lie, head to Jaleo and look for a narrow hallway lined with album covers. Follow your nose to the standing room only New York Style joint the locals refer to as Secret Pizza. It’s open 24 hours and it’s a very rewarding guilty pleasure.

Pool Parties

Leave it to Vegas to turn lounging into a party. Las Vegas pool parties are simply the hottest way to cool down. Popular locations like Rehab at The Hard Rock Hotel and Encore Beach Club at The Wynn always sell out, so get reservations well in advance if you plan to see and be seen. Not only do they bring in top performers like The Chainsmokers and festivals like Las Rageous, celebrity sightings are a dime a dozen during peak season. Pro tip: Most parties can get quite pricey, so whether you’re a rock star with an expense account or a tight budget, you should plan ahead. Bring a group of friends, or take advantage of our Book VIP specials.

Live Entertainment and Libations

While most people head to a Cirque show or take in a concert at The Hard Rock Hotel, the locals know that good music and great libations also occur off the strip. Check out the following favorite hotspots.

Count’s Vamp’d

It’s worth the cab ride to check out Count’s Vamp’d, a rock n roll house that hosts house bands as well as touring acts. Security is tight, so don’t be afraid to venture out for some great music in a cool atmosphere. Party like a rock star where the rock stars party.

I love V’ampd. It’s such a cool venue with an awesome rock n roll vibe and an absolutely amazing staff. It’s the place you can go either once a week or once a year and they will remember you. And it doesn’t hurt that Hash House A Go Go is right next door. – Frequent visitor and honorary local Deanna Jack

Herbs and Rye

I asked my friend, former Vegas resident Justin Covillon, where his favorite haunt was, and he recommended Herbs and Rye without hesitation.

It’s a quaint little spot with an incredibly diverse and fascinating drink list … a long time favorite, which also has live entertainment which can be pretty amazing. Can’t stress the amazingness of the drinks here.
