Why Travel?
It is easy to not understand how important travel is. In the United States most of us are lucky to get a week or two of vacation time AFTER a year or more of work. At that point, then you might get some extra time here and there. If you are a good, long term employee. The United States is the only one of the “civilized nations” that do not have a legal vacation requirement. Why travel? Because it’s good for you in more ways than you might now!
I am going to give you a short list of reasons to travel. I am sure that many don’t think they can afford to travel though. This will proved wrong if you read on!
Reason to travel #1-You just need a break!
Long days at work, screaming kids, barking dogs, long commute times, bills, taxes and a boss that is a jerk.
Doesn’t that sound like you need to take a little time off?
Mental and physical health is a priority not only for your job but for longevity. Also, escaping a hectic and fast paced situation might be just what the doctor ordered.
Reason to travel #2- Traveling makes you a better person!
As is often the case with people exposed to different cultures, your mind tends to open. Visiting a foreign country has a profound effect on a person. That person tends to become more accepting and open to others. The American Psychological Association actually studied the effect that traveling abroad had on people. The study concluded that the more travel abroad someone did, their openness and agreeableness improved.
There is just one problem, 29% of Americans have never even been abroad and the average American has been to just three countries. The average European, TEN countries.
Reason to travel #3- Your Heart wants it!
Why travel? You tend to avoid heart disease. This could be a result of people that tend to travel have a disposable income. People with a disposable income tend to have better healthcare. Or it could simply be a result of traveling itself. For example, this study shows that women who travel at least twice a year have a smaller risk of heart disease.
In addition, men who do not travel have a 30% greater chance of heart disease.
Reason to travel #4- It strengthens your relationship!
A survey conducted by the US Travel Association shows that the couple that plays together, stays together!
- Couples that travel together have longer relationships.
- They have a lower divorce rate.
- Are more satisfied in their relationship.
According to the survey, the opposite is true of couples who do not travel often. We also are aware that couples in good relationships likely will live longer healthier lives. Stress kills.
Reason #5 to travel- It makes you happy!
Just the anticipation of travel can elevate your mood. Studies were conducted between people who were making a material purchase vs people making travel plans and the travelers were simply just happier!
Reason #6 to travel- It is affordable!
There is no reason not to be able to find a travel deal with all of the information out there.
First you have sites like CheapAir.comthat can find you great rates on flights, hotels, car rentals and more.
Then you can find great deals on resort travel by using a site like Tour Radar, which has hundreds of tours to dozens of countries. These tour companies and hotels all compete for the same dollar, so using a company like this can result in huge savings.
